Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does it cost more to see a board-certified pediatrician?
Your co-pay is the same at San Gabriel Pediatrics as it is at a regular family doctor's office. Dr. Hossalla and Dr. Gipson are board certified pediatricians.
  • Who board certifies a pediatrician?
    The American Board of Pediatrics.
  • Why are wellness visits considered so important?
This is the ounce of prevention that saves the pound of cure. If they were not important, your insurance would not pay for them. Wellness visits and immunizations are vital towards the comprehensive care of your child!
  • Are there advantages to going to a pediatrician over a family doctor?
Pediatricians see only children. They should at least be more familiar with the viruses and childhood illnesses running through the community. Plus, they have three more years of medical training directed towards children's medical needs.
  • Can we just drop by for a pre-sports physical?
Please try to make an appointment at least a month in advance.
  • Do you believe children should get flu shots?
Everyone over 6 months of age should get a yearly flu vaccination. However, It is especially recommended for children 6 months to 18 years, including children in high-risk groups, such as those with asthma. See our vaccinations page.
  • When should my child get vaccines?
We start giving your child immunizations on their first visit. Nothing is more important than getting these immunizations.
  • I want to have Dr. Hossalla do my newborn's circumcision. How do I make an appointment in advance for this as I obviously do not have a date of birth yet?
Call soon after your son is born.   We like to do the circumcision soon after birth.
  • Is everything in the medical world electronic?
No. We still send a lot of information by fax. Although it is getting more difficult to find a place for individuals to find a fax machine, you can send a fax from The UPS Store on Williams Drive and several similar type stores.
